London's dart pubs continue to decline
Thursday, June 26, 2014
It's been a bad couple of months for London's dart pubs.
At the end of May 2014 the Porter's Lodge in the City finally closed its' doors for good. It was an ugly pub which was in desperate need of new toilets (!), but it had been one of London's very best dart pubs for a number of years, and the closure is a serious blow to the game in the capital. The building is being knocked down.
At the same time, the Princess Alice in Aldgate has closed for a major refurb. Although most recently a single-board pub, this was once the City Darts, home of 5 boards, Ant & Dec throwing live on ITV and the launch party for Murder on the Darts Board. It looks like the new iteration will contain a load of tossers, but sadly not of the tungsten variety.
With these changes (and thanks to a re-fresh of the Edgware Road section) the number of pubs in the guide has, for the first time, dropped beneath 100. Worrying times for the dart boards of central London.
